Hare Tuvar Ki Sabzi


How to make Fresh Pigeon Peas in Tomato and Spring Garlic Sauce, Tuvar Lilva green garlic sabzi , Green Tuvar and tomato garlic vegetable, winter special food - hara tuvar aur hare lehsun ki sabzi

Today's blog post is another winter special recipe made with fresh pigeon peas and fresh green garlic, which is also known as spring garlic



This is my second blog posting on fresh pigeon peas. Both the recipes are very new, unique, delicious, healthy and prepared with seasonal vegetables which are available only in this winter season. These winter special recipes were created with an aim to enjoy special ingredients in this beautiful season such as sesame seeds, jaggery powder, raw peanuts and fresh green garlic. 


The action plan for today's recipe is to pressure cook fresh pigeon beans and then cook them with tomatoes and in fresh green garlic paste.

☑ Ingredients required 


  • 300 grams fresh toovar beans
  • 5-6 / 30 g green garlic (need stalks and bulbs both)
  • 2tbsp of cilantro leaves
  • 4-5 medium size tomatoes 
  • 2-3 green chillies 
  • 1 small piece ginger 
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder 
  • ½tbsp lemon juice
  • 1tbsp dry jaggery powder 
  • 1tbsp fresh grated coconut
  • 2tsp red chilly powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp ghee 

☑ Method 


♨ Step 1 Mise en place

Pressure cooking - boil green tuvar in a pressure cooker, allow 3-4 whistles. Drain the water and keep it aside until called for. 


Make Green paste - Coarsely grind the following ingredients - tomatoes, green chillies and cilantro leaves, then add green garlic stalks and bulbs and pulse for 3-5 seconds. 


♨ Step 2 : Cooking time

▪Heat oil in a frying pan. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida, sauté till you get nice aroma and when cumin seeds crackle, add green paste and cook this on high fire for 2-3 minutes.
Add red chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt to taste, mix well..



◾Add boiled green tuvar, grated coconut, jaggery and cook this on slow flame for 8-10 minutes till done..Lastly add lemon juice and switch off the flame.


◾Serve hot with chappati or rice.
