Today's blog post is super quick, healthy, delicious recipe of puffed lotus seeds which are cooked in delectable buttery tomato curry.



Phool Makhana Tomato Curry is very easy and delicious recipe. The best suited words for this recipe is that it cannot be easier than this... 



Euryale ferox is a scientific name of Makhana. The other common names are fox nut, puffed lotus seed, Gorgon nut, Phool Patasa and Phool Makhana. Phool Makhana are considered as pious food and essential ingredient used in many rituals.




Lotus seeds are considered as the best food for women as this food has ability to burn fat, and make you look younger... thanks to enzymes available in these puffed lotus seeds which has anti aging properties and also help in repairing damaged proteins. It is also recommended during pregnancy and postnatal weakness.



The plan of action for today's recipe is roasting of makhana in butter and then cook it in tomato onion curry.


Let's get started with recipe details 

▫Preparation time 3-5 minutes 
▫Cooking time 12-15 minutes 
▫Serving 2-3
▫Cuisine Indian 


Ingredients required 


▫1 Cup phool makhana - lotus seeds
▫1 tbsp butter 
▫½ onion
▫2 tomatoes 
▫Green chillies as per preference
▫1 tsp turmeric powder
▫2 tsp red chilly powder 
▫½ tsp sugar 
▫Salt to taste
▫Coriander leaves for garnish 


Method 
✔Step 1 Mise en place 

◾Tomatoes - onion - green chillies - washed - roughly chopped - grind and make a fine paste


Step 2 Cooking time

◾Melt butter in a fry pan on slow flame, add makhana and roast it on slow flame for 3-5 minutes. 

◾Add tomato paste and stir fry for a minute or two. 

◾Add dry ingredients - red chilly powder., turmeric powder, sugar and salt to taste. Mix it well.. 

◾Add 2-3 cups of water and prepare it on slow flame for 5-7 minutes, until makhana are soft and nicely cooked.



◾Serve hot with chappati or rice..

      The roasted makhana tastes like popcorn.. In fact many people love to eat as a healthy snack. When it is prepared in tomato curry it will become very smooth and pleasing in taste. Its like enjoying rich, exotic tomato soup..

  8. I love makhane, we usually eat during navratre times by roasting with peanuts as a salty mixture..never tried makhane curry, sounds interesting and tempting, beautiful red color curry..Yumm share Deepa :)
