Masala Pulka Upma



How to make Pulka Upma, Chappati masala Upma, Masala Phulka Upma, Seyal Phulka

Hello Friends, 

Today I've got something very interesting, delicious and super easy recipe for you from leftovers. Sharing masala pulka recipe with a stepwise pictorial guide.


Masala Phulka Upma or Roti Upma or Seyal Pulka is a complete meal and a healthy breakfast recipe.



Upma is a famous south Indian breakfast recipe made from semolina (Rawa), where as upma pulka is prepared from leftover Indian bread.



I believe this recipe is the best recipe As inflation is rising day by day, as a good homemaker we must try our level best to avoid wastage in any form. Leftover pulka and bread slices is one regular problem in every Indian house. This recipe is the best solution to this problem and the best part it tastes awesome and your family will going to demand again and again and it is also possible that they may request you to make it from fresh chappati.

⚫Recipe type - breakfast 
⚫Cuisine Indian 
⚫Preparation time 3-5 min
⚫Cooking time 10-12 min


☑Ingredients required 


⚫3-4 Phulka/ Roti / chappati 
⚫4-5 garlic cloves
⚫1 small piece ginger
⚫handful of coriander leaves
⚫2 medium size tomatoes 
⚫2-3 green chillies
⚫½ tsp mustard seeds
⚫1 tsp turmeric powder
⚫1 tsp coriander powder
⚫1 tsp red chili powder
⚫Salt to taste
⚫1 tsp cooking oil
⚫½ tbsp lemon juice (optional) or
⚫⅓ slice Kacchi Kheri- raw mango or
⚫½tbsp tamarind pulp (optional)


☑Method 


✔Step 1 Mise en place

◾Indian bread - Break the phulka/ chappati in medium size pieces - soak them in water for a min or two. Discard the water keep it aside until called for.

◾Make a coarse paste of coriander leaves, raw mangoes, tomatoes, green chillies. Add ginger, garlic and pulse for 5 seconds.




✔Step 2 Cooking time

◾Heat the oil in a non stick pan. Add the mustard seeds and let them crackle.

◾Add green paste and saute for a min or two. Add dry ingredients i.e. red chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt to taste Mix it all well.

◾Add soaked chappati pieces and ½ cup of water. Toss it gently and cook on slow flame for 3-5 minutes . Masala Upma chappati is ready to dish out.


◾Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves, green chillies and pomegranate seeds.

  5. Wow! This is how exactly my mom used to make this dish almost the same way. But the name was different. She used to name it 'Chunki Roti'. I will have to make some extra rotis to make this beauty!
