How to cook a Turnip | Indian Turnip Recipe | शलगम की सब्ज़ी | Turnip (Shalgam) Recipe
Today I'm sharing yet another winter special recipe of root vegetable which is a member of the radish family. This vegetable is very easy to prepare, easy to digest, low in calories and a very good source of vitamin C, vitamin B, calcium and iron. Yes, you got it. I am talking about turnips. In Hindi it is called as Shalgam (शलगम).
My today's recipe of Shalgam is a very simple and coming under fast to cook and good to eat recipes. You can savor this recipe with chapatti, rice or paratha. In our house, it is served with rice prepared with green split Moong dal.

♨INGREDIENTS REQUIRED FOR SHALGAM KI SABZI
- 250 g Shalgam (Turnips)
- 2 Tomatoes (Puree)
- 2 green chillies
- 1tsp cumin seeds
- 1tsp turmeric powder
- 1tsp coriander powder
- 2tsp red chilly powder
- 1tsp sugar
- Salt to taste
- coriander leaves for garnish
- 1-2 tbsp cooking oil
♨STEP BY STEP COOKING PROCESS
♨STEP 1: MISE EN PLACE
♦Remove turnip green and discard. Wash and remove the top and bottom of turnips. Peel and cut it into small cubes.
♦ Puree the tomatoes.
♨STEP 2: COOKING TIME
♦ Heat oil in pressure cooker over medium heat, add cumin seeds, let them splutter. Add turnips and saute for 5-6 minutes over medium to slow fire.
♦ Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilly powder, sugar and salt to taste,
♦ Add tomato puree and green chillies . Mix well and saute again for 3-5 minutes, add 2 cups water, cover and pressure cook up to 4-5 whistles, then slow the fire and simmer for minute or two or cook till done.
♦Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
