Hello Friends, 




Today I'm going to share a very delicious and lip smacking chana dal recipe. Sharing recipe with step by step photos.




This spicy chana dal recipe is also known as "Pakwan Dal". The USP of today's recipe it is simplified and very easy to cook. I've followed slow cooking method for this recipe, but this can also be cooked in the pressure cooker. Please note, chana dal should not be overcooked. If you're going to use pressure cooker just allow one or two whistles..


☑Let's get started 

♨ Recipe details 

🔹Dal soaking time 45-60 minutes 
🔹Cooking time - slow cooking - 25-30 minutes or follow Pressure cooking 1-2 whistles - 5-10 minutes 


♨ Ingredients required 

🔸1 cup chana dal - Bengal gram
🔸2-3 tsp cumin seeds
🔸5-6 green chillies 
🔸1 small piece ginger
🔸8-10 curry leaves
🔸Pinch of asafoetida - hing 
🔸1 tsp turmeric powder 
🔸1-2 tsp tamarind pulp (optional) 
🔸Salt to taste
🔸2-3 tbsp cooking oil
🔸Coriander leaves for garnish




☑Method
♨ Step 1 Chana Dal Soaking 

◾Rinse Chana dal nicely under running tap water until water runs clear and then soak it in enough water for about 50-60 minutes.


♨ Step 2 Cooking time

◾Heat oil in a saucepan . Add cumin seeds and allow it to splutter. Now add curry leaves, green chillies, asafoetida powder and ginger pieces, let them sizzle for about 15-20 seconds.



◾Add soaked chana dal, turmeric powder and salt to taste. Mix it well and stir fry for a min or two. Add water just to cover the dal. Cover it with lid and cook it on slow flame for about 25-30 minutes until done. Check in between and if needed add water. We need a well cooked dal, and it should not be mushy or soupy. Lastly add tamarind pulp, mix it well. Cook it for a min or two. Our dal is ready to dish out.







◾Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
