My today's recipe is a wholesome breakfast recipe which is prepared with Dalia and different varieties of colorful veggies. Dalia means broken wheat. Daliya (Dalia) is also known as Lapsi, Fada, Wheat Porridge, Godi Rava, Bulgur or Bulgur Wheat. 



This savory breakfast recipe is high in nutrition, low in calories and loaded with fibre, magnesium, iron and phosphorus. The diet which is high in fibre is excellent for our digestive health, it aids us to a large extent in relieving and preventing constipation.


The best quality of cracked wheat is that it provides an improved glycemic index than refined flour or white rice. It also thins out our chances of heart disease and obesity..


The action plan for this recipe is roasting and pressure cooking of cracked wheat and after that, vegetables are sautéd separately to retain its crunch. Let's get started with stepwise pictorial..

☑ Ingredients required


  • 120 g medium or fine sized cracked wheat (dalia/lapsi)
  • 400- 500 ml Water required for this preparation
  • 1 carrot
  • 50 g peas
  • 1 onion
  • 1 potato
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 lemon
  • Pinch of turmeric powder
  • 2tsp red chilly powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Sufficient cooking oil


♨Step 1: Mise en Place -Chopping of vegetables


☀Onion: - Peel and chop it.

☀Potatoes: - Peel and cut into very small square cubes.

☀Carrot:- peel and chop them into square cubes.

☀Peas:- Peel it



♨Step 2:- Saute Vegetables


☀Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, let them splutter then add curry leaves and green chillies and stir fry for 5-7 seconds.



☀Add the onions, sauté them until translucent. Add potatoes, peas and carrots, saute them for 3-5 minutes. Add 20 ml water, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt to taste. Blend and cook for 3-5 minutes Switch off the gas stove. Keep it aside until called for.







♨Step 3: Roasting and pressure cooking of cracked wheat..


☀Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cracked wheat and sauté till light brown. Saute it on medium to low flame. Continue stirring and saute till it sets about giving very pleasant smell. This process will take 3-5 minutes. Now add water and salt to taste. (Add salt considering that we have also added in vegetables, which are sautéd). Close and lock the pressure cooker lid and allow 5-6 whistles and then simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes.






♨Step 4: - Blend, Simmer and Serve


☀Open pressure cooker, add sautéd vegetables, blend well. Add some water if needed. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Serve very hot.
