Today's blog post is about Fresh Green Pigeon Beans. This recipe is very delicious, healthy and very easy to prepare. Tuvar Lilva, hara tuvar, green pigeon peas are some of the common names of this fresh pigeon bean.


Masaledar Hare Tuvar Ki Sabzi is must try recipe for all those who want to try something super delicious and lip smacking. 



To remove the shell of pigeon pod is one of most difficult and time consuming job. But to make this process super easy and quick, blanch the bean pods for 5-10 minutes or soak them in water for 15-20 minutes.

☑ Recipe details 

▪Cooking time (follow any one cooking method whichever suits you the most,  depending on  the availability of time)

  • slow cooking 30-35 min /
  • Pressure cooking 15-20 min
  • Preparation time 20-25 min

☑Ingredients required



  • 350 grams shelled fresh pigeon peas
  • 1 Handful of coriander leaves
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • ⅓ tsp asafoetida powder 
  • 30 grams fresh coconut 
  • 2tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1tbsp roasted peanuts 
  • 1tbsp coriander seeds
  • 2-3 tbsp dry jaggery powder or as per taste 
  • 1 lemon
  • 2-3 green chillies or as per taste
  • 1tsp cumin seeds
  • 2tbsp ghee



☑Method 

◾Step 1 - Mise en place 

Blanch and shell the green pigeon beans. Keep aside until called for.

◾Step 2 - Make Green paste

Mix all the ingredients and make a coarse green paste. Ingredients required for green paste: coconut, sesame seeds, coriander leaves, coriander seeds, , curry leaves, green chillies, dry jaggery powder, roasted peanuts, lemon juice and ½ cup water.


◾Step 3 - Cooking Time

Heat ghee in a fry pan. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida, sauté till it changes color. Add pigeon peas. Add turmeric powder and salt to taste and sauté for 5-7 minutes on slow flame..


Add green paste, 1 cup water. Mix it well and cook this for 15-20 minutes till done. Serve hot with chappati.
